Yeah that's a nice fish, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Good shot by the looks of it with an entry just behind the gills. What's the range on them spear guns?
I did a little snorkeling on Magnetic Island a few months ago and was surprised at how I could almost get within arms length of barramundi & coral trout, plus a range of less desireables.

Not such a simple question to answer as it all depends on gun type, length, shaft weight, amount of bands, thickness of bands, tip type and how big/small the target species is. Fish like flathead and leatherjacket you can get quiet close to (flathead can even be speared by hand when floundering) but other species are more flighty and weary like snapper and won’t let you within range too easily. The best info you can acquire is from dedicated dive shops. Spearfishing is a lot of fun though!

Yeah I bet, I have done a little diving in the bay, and seen how close you an get to flathead.

That's pretty cool 'ey! With the abundance of food in the area, it does make sense. Jewies...Kingies...I'm sure quite a few would cruise through unnoticed.
