300 tonne Rec take of bluefin across all of Australia? I'm calling shenanigans on that.re-tyred wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 5:53 amAustralia southern Blue fin tuna quote for this year is 6000 tonne. The recreational catch was less than 300tonne for all of Australia
plenty on Info here: https://daff.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/clie ... 1032581/24
world wide there is a slow recovery of tuna stocks. Mostly thanks to finally getting most of the countries to sign up to a management deal.
In 2019, the CCSBT adopted a new management procedure (the Cape Town
Procedure) that aims to rebuild the southern bluefin tuna stock to 30% of its initial
unfished biomass by 2035, with 50% probability. This new management procedure
will be used to set the global total allowable catch (TAC) from 2021. The global TAC is
allocated to members and cooperating non-members, as agreed by the CCSBT under
the 2011 CCSBT Resolution on the Allocation of the Global Total Allowable Catch.
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority sets the TAC for the SBTF, with
reference to Australia's CCSBT allocation, using individual transferable quota (ITQ).
Hell saltguide alone last year took half a dozen or so barrels. Not even factoring in the plethora of schoolies that are caught the whole way from portland to the prom. It's virtually a year round fishery if you're willing to do the miles.
6 boats were cleaning their catch of schoolies off portland when I was there cleaning my fish. Between the crew there would have been 25 fish at the tables for that 30 min period. Making it a minimum 350-400kg of fish. I'd say a tonne would have been cleaned at those tables that day comfortably.
I would say the rec take would be 1000 tonne plus in Victoria alone.

That is the amount from fisheries monitoring. Not my figure.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Tackle talks like the one posted are great for learning techniques. Still no substitute for time on the water.

It’s funny because the man who championed catch and release for many was Rex. Not perfect by any means but done a lot for rec fishingDougieK wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 4:29 pmFrom the generation that f-cked the housing market and ruined the economy, now looking for new ways to screw the next generation, I present to you, this ####t.
