Hi all,
I fished at lagoon pier from 4:30-11:30 last night. The water was very brown on top, but presumably salty enough below. I landed a small flathead and pinkie as the sun went down. After dark my mate managed a few small salmon on bait just in front of the pier and I hear they were caught at the base of the pier too. I tried spinning for the first time to land a one, but it seems bait was the go. He also managed a couple of small bearded rock cod which seem to be getting caught a lot at the moment. Apparently this is a sign of cold water which was certainly the case last night.
Thinking of heading out again tonight and am open to suggestions! My 25k radius extends very roughly from Altona to Black Rock. Would be keen to try somewhere with slightly cleaner water and fewer cod but more salmon or even squid. Failing that I might hit a metro river.
Cheers,
Leo

Forget about the metro river, yarra is like a milo, Nong is usually cleaner but I assume it'll be dirty too and hard to fish.
I went to princess pier this morning for about an hour to check, a lot of people fishing and no fish, was only 1/2m visibility, but not brown. The brown water was kind of visible in the distance.

Cheers Sebb,
I know that dirty water can bring the predators in, but what I saw of the maribyrnong yesterday looked next level. It could have been satay sauce haha. If the Yarra will only be worse then I’ll have to give it as miss.

I reckon princess pier or the port melb rocks be the better options for the area, than metro rivers. They're a bit "sheltered" from the dirty flush.
I might go to Williamstown on my kayak tomorrow morning, hopefully the water will be clear enough there.
