Mt Martha squid

Post by Sebb » Sat Nov 21, 2020 4:39 pm

Fished 5am-8am. High tide around 8am I think it was. 43% moon, moon rise 11:27am. Almost no wind. Super clear water.

In this kind of condition, the squid can be hard to fool.
Me and other three mates with various jig colours and sizes. Best was 2.5 white then red/orange in both 2.5 and 3.0, the 2.5 was better as it could stay in the strike zone longer drifting in the current. With slow gentle retrieve. With 3.0 was best to more frequent small twitch/lift.

Four of us caught in total of 9 squid. Nothing big but enough for the plate and some snapper bait. Most of them caught around the first light.

Starting to believe the 4-5kg+ red is a myth and those reports and photos are fake news :rf:

You can't beat a good feed of squid with some extra for bait!

Hehe good on you.
I've seen a lot of photos of big snapper (4-5kg+) but never seen in person nor caught one.
