My own personal opinion is that the combo is too heavy for spinners, I like to use a 1 - 3kg rod with 4lb braid and leader, the weight of the line and the retrieval rate of the reel will make a difference, especially if you are using small spinners, a keel wiil make a big difference and some quality spinners like Mepps will also solve your problem, you won't have problem scaling down your line as the drag on that reel will be more than enough to handle any fish you catch on a spinner, good luck in your endeavors

Re: Retrieving Spinners
I have a 2-4kg rod that I use for spinning as well which sounds like it might be a little more suited to the job according to your advice. Thank you for your detailed reply.Seniorfisho wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:27 amMy own personal opinion is that the combo is too heavy for spinners, I like to use a 1 - 3kg rod with 4lb braid and leader, the weight of the line and the retrieval rate of the reel will make a difference, especially if you are using small spinners, a keel wiil make a big difference and some quality spinners like Mepps will also solve your problem, you won't have problem scaling down your line as the drag on that reel will be more than enough to handle any fish you catch on a spinner, good luck in your endeavors

Re: Retrieving Spinners
Get hold of some Mepps spinners (Aglia & Black Fury) in sizes #0 & #1 for medium to large rivers & #00 for small stream fishing and have a anti-kink set up as well to stop line twist..

I caught few good trout on it.
I never used the anti kink, good little invention. I might try next time.

Re: Retrieving Spinners
Bit of an update. I went to Rowville Lakes today and used the celta on my lighter rod and hooked a rainbow. Unfortunately I dropped it at my feet as it spat the hook. Bloody spewing but that's fishing sometimes.
