Basic Fly tying Equipment
Ok guys,
ive sort of decided to give this whole fly tying things a go.
i want to make some basic flies (whitebait, pillies sort of pattern im guessing shouldnt be too hard) for salmon and pinkies, maybe some bream down the track so they need to be a bit heavy, and sink somewhere in the 4 to 7gm weights generally suit where im fishing
they will be used on a spin rod, cause i suck at casting a fly rod.
can anyone suggest what stuff i need to get, ebay would be ideal as i dont need to visit shops then.
cheers

Get your big fish larry on.
Seriously though. Whilst the bobbin is a bit “how ya goin” the vice grips as a fly vice is genius. If I ever get into it I’m just gonna clamp some to a steel bracket that’s fixed to the table.

I’ve been getting by using this kit
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/South-Pacif ... SwZrtckyZ-
Sure using better equipment would be nicer, but for $70 to your door, it has all the tools needed (including vice) and will get the job done

Tims kit looks okay for what you need to do a 360 rotating vice head makes the job so much easyier as long as the jaw,s clamp well (Tim as put a pic,c of he,s fly,s )I do like a ceramic bobbin holder god damm just looked at some price,s i bought all my gear approx 30yrs ago vise,s with a rotary head were just coming into Aus My vice is a renzetti traveler as long as the vice,s jaw,s hold the hook secure your right to go looking forward to your creation,s .Fly casting isnt that hard

Re: Basic Fly tying Equipment
That's a good basic kit, it's got everything.
I got something similar. Used to tie woolly bugger and nymph. I might get back to it.
There's few you can buy online or ebay etc. A good vice helps a lot in detailing, but a basic one will do too, especially for something easy like snapper snatcher.
If you want to make it so you can cast with a spin rod, use dumbbell eye thing (the one used in clouser), and or wrap copper wire along the length of the hook, it adds a bit of body too.
