Re: Unknown Port Lincoln
Being an ex Sth Aussie it is a shittie.. Trumpter, great live bait for Mulloway, I used to keep a few of the large one for eating as they have iodine in them and good for you.. Called shitties because they came in plague proportion when fishing for KG whiting which gave the fisho's the s***s.. they hold out mainly in the weed beds and come into the white sandy patches when one burleys up for bottom feeding fish.. bit like the leather jackets which are also a pain in the butt, only difference is they're (leather jackets)better eating..

Re: Unknown Port Lincoln
Sorry to disagree Adrian but I am always happy to have a few decent sized Leather Jackets around but trumpeter are truly a curse when KGW fishing in SA. Tassie Trumpeter are a different question though and are good eating and we have caught some big ones at the 12 mile reef off Bermagui..
You have been a bit quiet there - I trust you are getting around OK? I had a minor operation in December but nothing too serious.
Regards from Paul
A couple of really good-sized Tassie Trumpeter:

Re: Unknown Port Lincoln
Bit ambiguous, but I think meppstas reckoned the jackets were better eating than the shitties. Maybe so called because of the taste?

Re: Unknown Port Lincoln
Yes colnick, that's what I meant, I used to keep a few leather jackets for the father in-law who loved them..
Paul, I've been a little slow out of the blocks lately due to lower back & hip problems.. still hitting the rivers when the body is okay..
Glad to see the operation went okay and nothing real serious to worry about..
cheers

Re: Unknown Port Lincoln
Yeah caught heaps of them at Busselton, couldn’t keep a bait in for more than 2 minutes without catching one or getting a bite all day
