Managed a quick sprint to Inverloch to catch the incoming high tide which was peaking at 3am (30/11). Arrived at 9.30pm, parked myself at the end of the jetty, tied off a berly bag and put two lines out in its trail. during the next two hours had a few pings but nothing significant, however....
I was baiting up with my back turned to my set rods and down the jetty, arms waving, ran the two other fishos out on the jetty for the night. They'd watched one of my set rods buckle over, bounce out of is groove in the wooden pylon, drag across the end of the jetty, and out and over the side into the drink, rod. The perils of being more than half deaf.... you miss all the action if its happening behind you. :-( I'm going to say it was a huuuge mulloway, and the poor bugger is swimming around Inverloch trailing a lovely Penn Allegience Rod and a Penn Spinfisher Reel. Spent the next 5 mins staring absently at the water and quietly inventing a few curse words.
Eventually called it quits at 3am with the tide absolutely rocketing in, where by this time I had shifted around to fish the calmer waters that were not in the direct current on the seaward side of the pier. Did give the hard-body lures a go in the swifter water hoping for some fun with a barracouta or something hungry and big. All up , landed a few legal flatties, but decided to put them back as they weren't quite meaty enough to be worthy sacrificing their short life for.
Looks like I'm up for a new rod and reel this xmas.
