New rod for SP and squid
Hi guys,
Kmart rod finally gave out after 2 years of use, I'm now looking for a new rod that can handle soft plastics and squid. It has to be two piece, length doesn't matter too much but I'd like 6'6 and up. Budget is under 80$, any recommendations?
Cheers

Re: New rod for SP and squid
There's few options around that price.
I'd look for $100ish rrp graphite rod and buy on sale at $80ish.
I use my 2-4 kg Shimano raider often for squid and soft plastic for bream/flatty/pinkie. I suggest between 7' and 8'. Shorter rods are usually 'too stiff' for squid.
Raider and Veritas is in that price range. But you can go to Catana as well.

Re: New rod for SP and squid
Cheers guys, ended up picking up a catana 2-4kg for like 65$ on sale (20% off all Shimano rods, 40% off selected rods) as well as 4 squid jags (2 for 25$ deal), and a packet of slim swimz in motor oil to try out, and with that some pro cure scent. I've never used scent, does it make a difference?

Catana is a good rod for the price. Goog value for money.wem21 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 6:48 pmCheers guys, ended up picking up a catana 2-4kg for like 65$ on sale (20% off all Shimano rods, 40% off selected rods) as well as 4 squid jags (2 for 25$ deal), and a packet of slim swimz in motor oil to try out, and with that some pro cure scent. And yes, it does make a difference. Especially when they're fussy.

The missus and I we love our Catanas as well!
Took a couple of 9fters earlier this year to Merimbula and smashed the sambos and tailors casting metals from the surf! Was awesome fun!
Those scents make a big difference! I have been fishing before with my mates and I was the only one using the scent and was smashing the fish while they were only getting one here and one there.
