Thats what i was always told by old fishos down Phillip Island way, or something to those words.
Is there any truth to it?
If so why?

Fishing in saltwater I have never really noticed any obvious difference in how good the fishing in regards to wind direction. However, in freshwater; especially in lakes, I have noticed a huge difference in fishing and very often when the wind blows from the east or north the fishing can be very slow, I don’t think it’s necessarily the wind but actually the conditions associated with it such as low barometer. That’s my interpretation anyway, but the issue is pretty controversial.

Yep. I fish the Island pretty exclusively and 9 times out of 10 and easterly wind = no fish. No idea why...

Load of hogwash imo
I've had just as many donut sessions on a westerly as I've had on easterlies

I thought there might actually be some truth too it that might have to do with water temps that could affect feeding patterns of some fish.
Dont expect Port Phillip bay or even much of Western Port would be affected much but when you get a good SE-E blow sometimes it seems to cause a drop in surface water temps in Bass Strait (along the coast at least) that expect would also push into the east and west entrance areas of western port.
You wouldn't expect SE-E winds to cause water temp drops but i think its got to do with upwelling events deeper water replacing surface water http://media.bom.gov.au/social/blog/124 ... oastlines/
