Where to drift to squid around Queenscliff

Post by 8BALL » Wed Oct 09, 2019 1:03 pm

I'm considering heading to Queenscliff to target some larger squid species, and was wondering particular areas/depths I should focus on ?

Any hints would be appreciated, as I've never fished the area (will be in a boat launching from Werribee South).

As you drive into queenscliff on the right hand side is a big house called cottage by the sea it’s a pinky beige colour take note of the colour and shape. When you launch at queenscliff head out the cut turn right and head to the Lonsdale bight. On the corner just before turning into the bight is a red stick at low tide you will see people there that is bell reef you can drift along there.
Go into the Lonsdale bight follow the beach you will see the cottage by the sea drifting along the edge there has been my most productive spot. You can follow the beach towards point Lonsdale but when you reach the yellow markers you are in the marine park beware.

Just turn right outside the cut and look for the plethora of boats, you cant go wrong in finding where they are, its just a matter of getting onto them

I dont know where to fish in qlcf. But take some heavy jigs as the current runs hard there..

Werribee to qlcf is a long way.
Have you considered driving to qlcf ramp and launching there?

Any hour either side of high or low is the best as long as the water is not murky

Lonsdale Bight or whatever it's called.

You can pick them up in any of the weedy areas all the way up to St Leonards, just checkout google earth. If you can see the weed it's usually a sign there's habitat for them and it's shallow enough to fish for them.
