Trout Opening on the Goulburn river
Hey guys,
Had a bit on on opening weekend but managed to get up during the week to chase some of the large fish stocked for opening. Still a few people about chasing them but no where near the numbers on opening day, hope you enjoy watching.

Cheers Alex

Nice, you caught some of them stonkers. The water still looks a bit dirty.

Seen photos of catches online, if memory serves me correctly - they look way more conditioned and meaty compared to prior brood stock releases.
How do they go on the end of the line for their size and being mostly tank raised?

Thabks guys
They fought well, not as well as a wild fish of their size but they still took line and you had to play them out a bit to get them to the net
They're bigger fish than the typical broodstock but average size is down on last year's trout opening stocking. Still large fish.happyfriggincamper wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 9:19 pmSeen photos of catches online, if memory serves me correctly - they look way more conditioned and meaty compared to prior brood stock releases.

I had no way of getting the fish home in good condition and it was bigger than I needed anyway. I do keep some of what I catch but not much of it

Great to catch a fish of this size but you wouldn,t have lost anything by not eating it.
Hatchery fish live on pellets, the flesh is creamy instead of the bright orange or red of wild fish, and they don,t taste great.
Always good to get something that big and give someone else the same thrill but you wouldn,t have enjoyed eating it.

Lord, allow me to catch a fish, so large that even I,when speaking of it afterwards.........May have no need to lie !!!
