First Gummy
I headed out in search of my first gumbo last thursday.
Launched at Jam Jerup and headed straight across the channels to french island, that was a little more sheltered from the westerlies.
We sat in close at around 2-2.5 metres, anchored up and had some baits in.
We were running whole sardines on a ganged rig, freshly foraged mud crabs, month old squid heads and some fresh garfish.
The only bite for the day was a run on the whole sardine.
My Abu7001i + Shaekspeare game combo made short work of the neatly hooked gumbo.
7/0 Octopus circle neatly pinned in the corner of the mouth.
My mate reckons that it was a slow session, but I was super stoked neverthless.
The fish was released .

Re: First Gummy
Congrats mate!
Hard to believe someone who fishes as often as you do has never targeted/caught a gummy before. You have the right area correct but most times I fish even shallower, right up on the mud flats for gummies. 1 - 1.5m. Whole banana prawns are a great bait too for the upper reaches of WP (no idea why though as their aren't any prawns in there lol)

Ive targetted them a handful of times and have had varied results ranging from a 1.46m landbased school shark to big bite off from what i think was a bronzie. Just cant pick what smokes me reel off the beach.

vaguely remember them being discouraged as bait.

The imported ones had white spot & should not be used as bait
