Re: Safety Equipment
All the money that is spent on fishing gear and boats, bait and fuel. Why would you go without an EPIRB. It may not be required but it will save your life. I have an EPIRB on the boat and a PLB and handheld VHF on my lifejacket.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Safety Equipment
Thanks! That is useful to know. I tried to search for it imeediately but I could not find it online. What is the name I should search for? I tried enclosed water pack and related keywords and nothing came up.Hydroman wrote:I buy the enclosed water pack from either Whitworths or BCF. Re: Safety Equipment
Thank you! Found it. A bit more dearer than I expected. But at least I know BCF has it.

Re: Safety Equipment
For a set of 4 flears pay anywhere from $65 to $90 must have.
Optional
For a 406mhz epirb anywhere from $250+
Red Parashoot flare.
About $60
Even thou some might not be required for ppb or wp its worth considering how much money you put on your life.
You possible going to reduce the risk the chance of emergency services getting to you in a.hurry for $ 300 ish every 3 or so years.
I had a boat for 8 years now and had 2 or 3 epirbs but never used them but for peace of mind if i needed it.
Just think if your boat rills over and battery does on the boat and you loose your mobile.
How do you call for help?

Re: Safety Equipment
So it's time to update my flares (Victorian inshore kit = 2 x red smoke, 2 x orange smoke...add a parachute for offshore).
How can you make sure you get 'fresh' flares, or conversely, has anyone successfully got discounted flares from a retailer because they had less than 3 years left on them?

Re: Safety Equipment
Know this is an old thread but a PLB and handheld VHF are a great idea and something I’m going to adopt.

I have dolphin torch...last few times the water police said it was fine..crumpet_avenger wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 5:05 pmFire extinguisher and a waterproof torch are also a must...
Years ago i thought a dolphin torch would be adequate but the water police told me otherwise. Didnt get a fine, just a warning. They said it must be waterproof. I also have a fire blanket just incase
