It’s unusual for these guys to be found this far south, but it’s not unheard of. We know that with changes to water temperatures and mixing of currents, more warm-water species are starting to appear in Victorian waters.
Mahi Mahi are a highly mobile fish and appear to be hitching a ride on the Leeuwin current which flows south near the western coast of Australia.
We’re keen to continue supporting Portland as a premier saltwater fishing destination for southern bluefin tuna and many other species, with events such as our Hooked on Portland music and fishing festival every January long weekend. We believe Portland is the next game fishing capitol of Australia…prove us wrong, Bermagui!
