For just the kayak around small shallow reefs?

What kind of species would you be expecting to catch? Dunno whether GT will be within paddling distance lol

GTs come close as well. They could surprise you. Seen them patrolling sand flats maybe 2-3 foot deep even. But also have caught GTs up to 15kg on small lures, so use small lures and target everything. Should have some fun then.

Sorry just seen this post, thanks mate! Will try this out of Port Denerau on my last 4 or 5 days.

I have booked 2 charters out of tokoriki island in the first few days. One a reef fishing trip the other a sport fishing trolling trip. They are predominantly diving charters but they occasionally do fishing charters too... Google reviews show they do know how to find fish... well I hope so anyway, as I'm hiring the boat all to myself at this stage and it's gonna cost around $750aud all up lol.. hopefully a few last minute stragglers jump on board and help split the costs if not then oh well, more fish for me!

Fly out Melbourne cup night, getting excited! Will post catches in this thread.

So went for a snorkel today just around the resort seen a small GT (maybe 5kg's?) just cruise past me in only about 1.5m of water. Really couldn't believe it

Also seen a black tip at the drop off yesterday. I know they aren't dangerous but it still was eerie and I was a bit scared lol. It was just cruising around slowly like how the big Whites do in documentaries and crap. I would kinda lose sight of it in the distance and just see a black figure floating around mid column. When swiming away was kinda scared it was gonna sneak up and bite me on the ass lol

If that wasnt scary enough I was talking to a diver at the resort and he said he seen his first Bull... 7 foot or so. **** that. I kept telling myself their were no bulls or tigers in these waters and this p**** just ruined it for me :(

Got a GT popping charter booked in 3 hours. The fishing is apparently really slow here at the moment, but fingers crossed!
