Fishing line for snapper

Post by Frankb » Fri Oct 26, 2018 7:52 pm

Hi all
I am sooo confused regarding which line to put on my reels for snapper fishing ppb out of boat.
I've been told to stop wasting money on expensive mono or braid and just use cheap brands like jv or maxima in 15lb mono.
Now this guy knows his stuff but I thought I would post here just to get your opinion on the cheap lines if anyone does use them.
I suppose it's not an expensive excercise if cheap mono is good enough and I can change the line each year
Thoughts ???

Maxima ultra green is great line for the price. Don’t worry about anything else.

Used maxima ultra green for a few seasons with no issues.

As others have said maxima is great mono. I’d hardly put it in the same class as Jarvis walker line though. I’ve used ultra green and the fibre glow. Both been great. Won’t go wrong with it for mono.

I like to use the Berkley line on my outfits which I find good and priced well. In saying that I think any line will be ok for the main line as long as you have good quality leader material which is going to stand up to some abrasion.

Thank you all. I will go for the maxima.
By the way FISHNUT, do you use your outfit mentioned here for snapper.
I use a 4-8 kg rod with 15 lb mono and 30kg leader. Is mine perhaps too heavy?
Thanks everyone again and good luck with the season.

Maxima ultra green in 20lb. It even casts well on a overhead with the standard #2 ball sinker and the weight of the bait
