I'd really recommend watching this one in particular. The adjustments JS made to my OHT cast here were probably the most helpful of all the different techniques of casting I've picked up.

Thanks for posting; I really should spend some time learning how to get more out of my casts too. A couple of my mates have had lessons with JS and have improved dramatically.

It might be a dumb question, but what is an OHT cast?

OHT = overhead thump, OTG = of the ground.

The OHT only works on the vertical axis. It is much much easier to learn and be accurate with, however the distance is not the same.

The OTG goes further but is far more difficult to learn and execute because you're using your bodies rotational energy and footwork to assist in transferring power to the rod.

I stick with the OHT because it's more economical for spinning and casting with pulley rigs, or when space is limited or footwork is difficult due to terrain.

I'm not actually trying to cast as far as I can, due to long fishing sessions and spinning with heavy rods i'm looking for the most meters for energy I can find and the OHT seems to fill that slot.

it is getting to that time of year for us landbased guys checkout the footage with js270 and dougiek

For sure mate. But some of my biggest fish I haven’t had to cast far at all

true but soon the piers are going to be packed so with google earth and a bit more distance up my sleeve its very handy for landbased

went down to brighton pier and did some casting practice was hitting aprox 75/80 meters with a 2oz sinker and aprox 110/120 with a 3oz sinker its so much fun

yep just some practice casting after the rain thought the water would,nt be right and talking to one of the local icebergs/swimmers he said there was still a funny taste in the water caused from the runoff of the fire chemicals used to put out the fire near the warmies
