Mornington Pier 10/07/18

Post by Desperate Guy » Tue Jul 10, 2018 8:13 pm

Was planning to have a crack at some squid alike quite a few other fishos there but didn't see a single one caught today(8am-3pm). Bit weird considering how the rest of the bay seems to be doing quite well for squid. Very few people bait fishing the main pier, nothing caught as well. The small jetty to the right was packed throughout the day(mostly midday) with blokes catching quite a few decent garfish.

In short, gars seem to be the only choice(not even the wrasse/grassies were around), probably choose somewhere else if you want anything else.

Hope your next fishing trip will be a bit more eventful than this one

Dunno what this ugly fella my little brother caught was...

Water is very dirty after the weather we’ve just had, it will take a cpl of days to come good again.

That fish in the photo is commonly called a gobbleguts.

As Brett just said, the water clarity is ass. In general though... the squid arent firing as well as they were a month or so ago. Landbased that is..

Yep. gobbleguts are tiny and no taste. Not worth eating. The squid have moved out deeper lately.

Yea those things are too small to eat. Have caught them many times. Huge mouth for a small fish.
