Round 2 with another awesome landbased Snapper.
Honestly in disbelief.
Headed down with my old man who’m I haven’t had a fish with in yonks. Fishing the same spot as the other night.
Before we got there I caught a couple squid from morno pier, fresh bait is really the only way...
First 20 minutes very quiet. Then we had our first arrival, a nice 43cm pinky. Dad was stoked as. Had a few other runs but failed hook ups. Being a bit finicky at the moment.. finding that the only thing they’ll aggressively take is fresh squid heads. Normally the rings do the magic for me day in day out however last night was not the case. After 15 minutes of no touches on my line I changed baits from a squid ring to a small whole squid head.
Casually sitting there when all of a sudden my line starts running out of the spool (bait runner mode), then just stops. My Initial thought was it spat the bait. I waited a good minute or so until I noticed the line wasn’t slack but wasn’t tight either.. sort of in between. I immediately applied some pressure and boom.. this thing did not muck around.
I’ve had a lot of good screaming reels but this one really does take the cake. I kid you not it run about 60m without stopping, there wasn’t a moment where the reel wasn’t spinning. Every time I went to put some curry on it, it just went again and again. It didn’t run straight, it went parralel to the rocks. I had to chase after it very quick to stop my braid rubbing on the rocks, I fell over in the process but managed to stay tight. Finally it stopped running.. it has me thinking it was a Mulloway, with the amount of head shakes during the runs. It was a long slog back as it had run so far... but I got it back.
Another bloody beauty. 4.1kg on 8lb braid, 10lb leader with a 2000 size reel. Excilerating as anything? Cheers guys. Tight lines.
