Putting Pipi's on a hook so they stay on properly - Video please
Hi,
was trying to put pipi's on Size 4 Long Shank Hooks this morning at Canadian Bay (in the hope of some whiting as per the "LBF Guide to PPB") and they just seem to slide straight off the shank down to the bottom and be very easy for the fish to get off.
A tiddler salmon and a tiddler puffer fish were two culprits I managed to hook. I also wonder if the pipi's sometimes just wash off the hook - they seem very soft and sloppy.
I need a link to a Dummy's Guide video of how to put a pipi on a hook for PPB Land Based Beach / Rock Fishing so it survives the cast and stays on properly - I just don't have the knack obviously. Think I need to see it done to try and get the hang of it.
Can anyone point me towards such a video?

The trick with pipi is to thread it on the hook as many times as you can.
Possibly the bait keeper style hooks may help you.
They are the ones with two barbs down the shank of the hook.
I agree they are a fragile bait.
That's all I got..

Where did you buy the Pipi's from?
There is a big difference in quality between low quality frozen pipi's and fresh ones.
The low quality ones need to be threaded on as many times as you can like Hornet mentioned. The fresher pipi's are firmer and will stay on the hook a lot longer.
There is also a firmer part of the pipi which I always try to go through.

Pipis have a muscle/tendon thingy that attaches the fleshy part of the body to the shell....it's a slightly grey/white coloured tube that is noticeably attached to the upper part of the shell when you open it. Thread the hook through there first and then through the flesh a number of times. Makes all the difference.

Can be a pain at times and I have had the same problem in the past. Threading it on many times helps. If you are trying to cast a bit of a distance to stay on better I have found a strip of squid placed over the hook after threading the pippie on helps keep it on while casting

Try using a baitholder hook and thread it on a As many times as u can. U can also put a strip of squid with the pippi cause if the pippi falls of at least u still have some bait on there

Bought these from BCF;
http://www.gotchabait.com.au/products/p ... arge-pack/
Might head back down there and look for some different hooks. Long Shank /Baitholder if there is such a thing?
What do people think of the circles vs the long shank?

Pretty simple, just thread it through as many times as you can and have the black bit on the point of the hook. That’s how I use them effectively

Going to tie up a couple of rigs using the below whilst using the tips suggested and see how I go.
