Fish ID

Hi, I caught a fish in Port Fairy over weekend but not sure what kind of fish that is? Can anyone please tell me? Thanks

Could be a zebra fish or luderick

The bottom one looks like a luderick to me. Very nice eating
The top one is a wrasse. Soft and tasteless but apparently nice if steamed in an asian sauce

Zebra fish have 9 stripes , luderick have 12-13.
Now you know what you have caught :-D

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you do not know what type of fish you have caught, take a photo and release it back into the water. Then post the photo for your enquiries. Ignorance is NOT a valid excuse.

Do not kill and keep something that you cannot identify. Quite simply, you could be breaking the law or worse still, if it's poisonous, you could put yourself and others in serious jeopardy. (puffer fish - toxic, gurnard perch - spikes, blue groper - protected species, grey nurse shark - protected species silver perch - protected species in rivers of victoria).

Just my 2cents worth for today.
