Flathead in Glenelg river?
Hi all.
I will admit to being rather keen on Flatties on the fork.
Is there much chance of catching them in the lower sections of Glenelg river around Nelson?
I don't seem to have much luck finding reports of them being caught here.

Go to the sand flats near the mouth - more likely in spring / summer, but always worth a shot!

They are a bit scarce atm due to the cold weather mate, they are predominantly a summer fish.once its warmer you will find them a lot more easier..

Cheers Purple.
Yeah I guessed I wouldn't have much chance till it warms up.
But I just cant find reports of them being caught in the Glenelg.
Would seem odd if they are not in the system, as they live just about everywhere.

Re: Flathead in Glenelg river?
My family had a house at Nelson for 10 years or so when I was a kid. We caught lots of things in the river, primarily bream and mullet, with some mulloway. Never saw a flathead but that not to say they don't exist.

Looking at reports from the area it seems mulloway are the go at the moment.
Cheers,

I agree with magpie_mick. When I was in high school we lived in Casterton for a few years and the fishing club had outings to Nelson. I do not recall anyone ever catching a flathead although that is not to say that there are none. They certainly were not common though.
