Re: Gar fish tips
Lighter line, slower action rods, nice sharp hooks. Try a float also use a weightless bait in the trail.

Re: Gar fish tips
I went from a $100 graphite rod, to a $10 BigW special noodle glass rod, and my hookup rate at least doubled.rb85 wrote:Lighter line, slower action rods, nice sharp hooks. Try a float also use a weightless bait in the trail.

Re: Gar fish tips
Are gar in PPB all year round or are they seasonal? And in PPB are they found in shallow water or deep water, near weeds, at what depths? Are the sites just random or are there places where you can target them specifically. Whenever I've caught them it's been pretty random...and mostly at night

Re: Gar fish tips
I have had success using a 12 long shank with no float or sinkers. Used a tiny triangle of the silver belly skin off a pilchard as bait, worked well as it left plenty of hook exposed so the gar were hooking themselves
