What happened to the fish in Westernport yesterday?

Post by Vargs » Tue May 16, 2017 11:59 am

I went out yesterday from Warneet at about 8:30 and came in at 2:30. Had fresh nippers and pilchards and did not get a bite all day, not even the usual toadie. Tried Quail bank, Gentle Annie, Joes island and Crawfish rock.
I am not very experienced but does this just happen sometimes in Westernport? Is there anything unusual at the moment? Spoke to two other boats coming in at the ramp and they had had no luck as well.

Bit weird, normally expect to pick something up, even if they aren't what you're after...

I can guarantee you they didn't swim to Altona!
I was out for a short session last night night and didn't get a nibble.
My second short trip in a week when I didn't lose a bait.
Also flat as a tack all day then a short spike to a 20 km south wester at sunset, just to annoy me more.

Good with the bad.
Welcome Vargs, better luck next time.

And that's two nights in a row for me (including last night) for no bites at all and another zero on the mulloway. We did get two big runs on Saturday without hooking up, however - either snapper or mulloway, not sure. Either way, my theory is that the falling barometer hasn't helped.
