Parrot Fish - Western Port
Hi all
First post here. I have signed up to raise a discussion about Parrot Fish in Western Port , this year they seem to be in plague proportions.
I have fished just about everywhere from the Quarry (at the heads) to Newhaven and Parrot fish are everywhere. Generally the section between san Remo and Cleelnad Bight.
I have not seen it like this before and wonder if others are experiencing this??
There is no time for other species to get near the bait as the Parrot fish attack anything that goes down, drag you into the reef and destroy the fishing experience.
The only other species that seems to be able to be caught are squid, and forget about using silver whiting the Parrot fish destroy that too.
Im concerned that they are getting out of control and taking over the bay...

There has always been plenty of parrot fish from cape woolami to the cleeland bight due to the rocky bottom you always see people fishing close in to the cape targeting blue throat wrasse.
I have not noticed myself or my mates have not made comments about them

Targeting whiting in cleaner salt will eventually get them. They love burley and tend to be near reefy areas. If you get them move.

Theres always been heaps of parroties in wp. The asians love em. I throw them back. As ive tried every way of cooken them but they always end up mushy and tasteless. I Dont get how theres a 5 baglimit on them but 20 whiting or 10 pinkies can be taken.
