Plastic repair

Post by malleestump » Mon Jan 09, 2017 7:35 pm

I noticed my fish finder transducer was Broken at the mounting bracket today.ive never had any luck with so called plastic glue repair kits.I did a bit of research on the net and I decided to weld the joint together using my electric soldering iron. After 10 minutes I'd welded the two parts together and it seems quite ridged again. If you need more plastic to build up the weld then use a black Lego block.

Thanks guys .i had another thought today and decided to strengthen the melted joint with some electrical copper wire .Only bloke in the world who couldn't put a hand on a Lego block when required.Took the cap of a empty turps bottle and cut some strips to melt the copper over and around the join.Wont know until I float the old bugger one day how good a job I've done.

From talking to the plastic welder who did some work on my yak, you need to be careful that the plastic you are joining is the same type or it won't mix properly and the join will be weak
