Was out

Post by Wolly Bugger » Thu Dec 29, 2016 12:55 pm

This morning launched in near perfect conditions, flat calm seas, no wind, just the red sky in the morning as the morning sun rose, casting a pink and red hew across the water.

Headed down to the western side of WPB and then across to Corinella, do laps trying to get the sonar logging acreage up, It gets a bit boring after awhile and I am sure some of the blokes sitting anchor fishing are thinking who is this idiot who keeps zooming past, can't he make up his mind.

I was on the water at about 5am, then the wind came up making a little choppy, eventually I decided to head back to Hastings. It was a slow trip heading directly into the waves and wind, eventually made it back to Hastings with darkening skies on the horizon, a strong cross wind looked like it was boing to make it difficult to get the boat back on the trailer, but got in on first go without banging up the propeller.

Just as I sit down to have my cuppa, the rain starts to pour down, raining the proverbial cats and dogs, then the claps of thunder start sending the dogs into a barking frenzy as I savour my long await cuppa, left this morning without having one, looks like I'll be having a few more whilst the rain continues, at least I won't have to wash the boat down this today.

So far I have logged 4,588 acres, travelled 592 km's this month. Last month I think I logged about 6,000 acres. There are 6 people ahead of me for the yearly total, with only 2 more days to go, I doubt if I'll make it, but, on the plus side, I go to spots, areas that I would never have gone to and found some interesting looking areas that might be hot spots at the right time.

Like steep banks in western port, I even went close to french Island and there are some interesting channels there to fish at some point in time, I found a nice gutter that was not on the chart.

Hi Wolly, do you have a sounder that charts the bottom in 3d? It sounds interesting what you're up too, I have always thought that it would be awesome to have one of those sounders that you can chart your own areas, and find structure not marked on maps.

Went down the cut on middle spit. The Navionics chart is not accurate went aground once and had few more close calls. i needed another set of eyes. One side would be in deep water and the other almost on land.

Gave the prop a polish with some sand and stuff.

I have found some areas that need more exploring.

All of the Patterson river complex, and the mornington boat harbour, I have done plus mothers beach.
Down to Fossil beach, along the outside of the mussel farm, along mt martha rocks, plus some of Safety beach.
Wooleys reef
Some of Frankston artificial
The Aeroplane, the outer artficial
Up to black rock, Beaumaris bay and along the fore shore to mordiallic.
Some of Sorrento up to Blairgowie

Western Port I followed the shipping channel down to about red rocks.
Tried to di the the middle bank cut, but ran aground, once needed another pair of eyes.
then across the towards the corals and that area.

Found some interesting areas that were not marked as fishing spots, but I think would produce, Even found an unmarked channel in a shallow area that was not on any maps.

I am not sure, but the comp was suppose to finish in dec, but they have Jan standings so I don't know what is going on,
