Schnaps success
Gday fellow fishos,
After catching nothing more than a cold after countless hours pier fishing for snapps last season, I made a small investment recently in a little savage 3.8m tinny. Much to the mrs disgust haha.
After getting through a pretty hectic work schedule recently I finally got some time to commit the snapper season and smashed out through the chop quite a few times this week on dusk with the 15hp purring.
Launching from ST Kilda, I had spent most of the time early week raiding the cradle and pulling up countless pinkies anchored up near port Melbourne/princes pier. By the second trip I slowly worked my way out further after getting more comfortable with what my little vessel could handle. By day two, I found myself out with the big boats on the edge of the shipping channel at T11 and It has been on for young and old all week. Twenty snapper for the week (in four nights) and another 10 lost due to rougher seas and no stand up leverage for jezzalenko on the little vessel. They have been going nuts this week. I haven't seen anything like it. I even came across a swirl of spawning snapper stacked up in 10 metres all the way to the surface. Intense!
The spirit of Tasmania travelling past often brought on instant three way hook ups and we almost welcomed the big girl cruising past daily to bring on the fish. I'm off OS for the month but 100% satisfied after four nights straight of absolute mayhem. Even the lads in the big boats are shocked I committed a fish given some of the conditions this week.
If you haven't snagged any snaps yet this season. T11 marker is firing! Get out there and chase some buckles!

Re: Schnaps success
Well done mate. Yeah 3.8m tinny in some of the wind we've been having can be fairly chunky out there.
Glad you got onto some decent reds :a_goodjob:
Last season I had some strange looks being in a kayak sitting in 19m off Carrum between heaps of boats so I can understand the looks you would've copped.
Too bad you're away for a month, should still be around though when you get back

Have you been getting all you catches after dark? I've been going during the day and all I've been getting are pesky flatheads.
What bait and rig did you use? Thanks

Well done mate! Smashed em! T11 is my secret little early season spot. never lets me down. Pretty much that depth all along the channel is good ground.

Re: Schnaps success
excellent. Persistence always pays off.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Schnaps success
Haha yes indeed - the mad bastard Mattblack. Been using the ringmaster gummy sliders in the 4/0 size from rigmaster.com pinkiesnapper. They have a glow straw and beads and just Snelling up Pillies. Been getting the flatties and then on sunset the snaps have been coming on the chew. Also try and throw the sinking snapper pellets in every half hour or so to bring em in. Been getting them on the paternoster under the boat too which is always fun. They run you round the anchor rope or under the boat. Gets crazy at times when the schools come through. Thanks for the kind words all. Just stoked!

T11 is that just before the beacon? Long way out in a small boat if the weather changes. Great fishing well done
