Welcome back C.C.
Now you've caught the bait fish, try for the monsters.
Last time I was there the water was like "grey water" from the washing machine.
I caught my large one just left of the carpark, near the weeds.

Cheers

If you place them in a ice bath as soon that you catch them they will be very nice to eat...no muddy taste :victory: ...

Er...as Texas rightly points out - the water from Cherry Lake looks like the grey water from a washing machine - after a load of soiled undies! (Gardners Creek looks like a bottle of Mount Franklin in comparison).

Caught in the Nicholson river a few weeks ago. We didn't measure it as we didn't want it stinking out the boat. Was a monster. Taking on a plastic with 3lb braid 4lb leader
That's a big carp you got there.
Nicholson River-- Gippsland ?? Hopefully you catch that in freshwater.
Only asking, as have heard stories of them being caught in brackish water.

Cheers

Interesting read cornacarpio.... im sure your catch rates will improve over the coming weeks/months with all this rainfall and return to warmer weather.

Headed out today for my third fish in the western suburbs in **very windy** conditions...the swell at Cherry Lake was about 1.2 metres. It was very hard to tell if I was getting bites or it was just the wind, but just as I was about to pack up and leave empty handed, I noticed a definite bend in the rod which is a tell-tale sign that a fish is on the end of the line. To be sure, there was a little Carpio on the end, not huge, but better than going home with nothing!

Anyway, it was good to head out and get my first fish in ages, it's just a pity that it was so windy, otherwise would have stuck around and hopefully caught a few more!

Had a day off today, so I didn't know what to do - go fishing or watch the cricket? I remember the good old days of living on the banks of Gardner's Creek where I could do both in sufficient quantities in the one day! Anyway, with the barometer reading 27 degrees I decided to go fishing to my new haunt in Cherry Lake.

As per usual, it was blowing a gale and very hard to tell if my rod was moving due to the wind or a fish. After about half an hour or so I started to get regular 'twitches' of the rod and from there I was hooking little Carp after every third bite or so. I decided to go home after I landed three fish as the wind was really taking the enjoyment out of the day's fishing. As I was packing up, my second rod started twitching and on the end of the line was another small Carp. Although it was small, it was probably the biggest one I got for the day!

So, I finished with 4 smallish Carp for the day - a personal best (PB) from my new-found haunt in Melbourne's industrial (and windy) west. Not a bad day by any stretch of the imagination, but it was marred somewhat by the constant wind. As I sit here and type this in my new shanty in 'Spotty' (Spotswood) Australia have just lost 3 wickets...maybe I should have stayed out the lake!
