Chicken carcass for Yabbys :thumbsup:

Even an old piece of chicken or steak out of the freezer. I put a net in nearby with a freezer burnt piece of chicken and got about 30 good bait size yabbys overnight.
Cheers, Scott.

They are mosquito fish used to catch them as a kid....if they don't get eaten they nip at the fins of other fish....years ago had a mate that fed them to their pet trout.

Just curious.

Why are they called Mosquito fish?
Dont worry about tomorrow, dont worry about next week, live for now and long live the weekend.

They were introduced to eat the Mosquito lava that sits on top the water in certain rivers, so as to help reduce or control the mosquito population but ended up being more trouble than they expected.
They are deadly species so don't use them as bait anywhere

Boza,

They are definitely Mosquito Fish (Gambusia) which are classified as an introduced noxious species in Australian waterways, refer to the following link:

http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/pes ... ic-species" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The link states that:

Once declared as noxious, people must not bring these species into the state, nor take, hatch, keep, possess, sell, transport, put into any container or release into protected waters any declared noxious aquatic species (unless otherwise authorised by permit). A number of offences have been created relating to noxious aquatic species in Victoria.

Regards

Rob

I put 2 nets in last night before work. Got them this morning. Had about 50 or so good bait sized yabbys. I only keep what i need, so only kept 20. Got to keep this productive channel going.

Should head up this way for a fish one day. The Goulburn is fishing pretty good at the moment.
Cheers, Scott.
