Damn Turtles, Major Creek

Hi all,
New to the forum and back to fishing after a long hiatus.
So last week we headed up to Major Creek near Nagambie for a few days of camping and fishing.
All started well. Fantastic weather, a few reports of good fishing, sightings of fish catching bugs and chasing Gambusia, a number of Flathead Gudgeons and a couple of juv Redfins caught in the bait net and some genuine nibbles.
Looked like it was shaping up to be a great few days, especially after years of not being able to fish.
But no. Sigh!!
Pulled in turtle after turtle. Mix of very large Short neck and Long necks.
And they also kept running line under snags.
Tried floats, running and fixed sinkers sinkers, soft plastics, worms, corn, chicken giblets, homemade dough, caught cicadas and casted various lures.
Nope, nada. Just those damn turtles.
Loved the area and camping spot so would like to revisit again sometime.
Any advice on avoiding those pesky turtles?
Anyone fished the area?

Actually caught quite a few turtles on SPs before, pretty common.

Turtles are carnivores and won't touch corn or dough. Otherwise not much else you can do really

Um yeah the corn and dough were the most popular with the turtles. I've had them as pets and worked with reptiles. Unfortunately turtles are opportunistic and will give anything a go, meat or veg.

Yeah, I've caught them on powerbait before too. Poor little things, gotta feel sorry for them getting a hook in the throat though.

Interesting...my turtles (long necks) never ate vegetables. Guess they do if they are hungry enough
