Newbie - good fishing spot Heildelberg area

Post by caspersky » Sat Apr 01, 2017 1:53 pm

Hi all,
I am a newbie in fishing and just want to get into freshwater fishing (land based). I tried fishing at the Warrandyte State Park last weekend but didn't catch anything :/. Can anyone please share a good fishing spot around the Northern suburbs along Yarra river or the lakes?

Just take a walk along the bush/mountain biuke trails that run along the banks.

A good little spot is behind the banyule tennis courts in Heidleberg backing on to the park

Welcome to the site, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Try Sills Bend, Fannings Bend, the mountain bike track along the river through Banyule Flats. Most of the banks in the area are too high for easy land-based fishing, so what spots are accessible mostly have trails leading down to them already which makes them relatively easy to scope out.

Also varies a lot due to river height and vegetation growth. Good spots one year are hard to access the next, meanwhile new spots get opened up.

Thanks guys for the response. Tried Banyule Tennis Club today it looks like a good spot. However my fishing reel was playing up it can't reel back so had to forfeit the session. Will give it a go next time!

Tried at Banksia Park once. Had no trouble catching a few eels for gummy bait.
