Cod/trout setup advice
Got a place up at Bonnie Doon and time to get serious on chasing up a cod and some trout, would head down further towards goughs Bay Area id think for cod. Question is what kind of rod/reel combo would be good for this kind of work mostly flicking lures or trawling?

Re: Cod/trout setup advice
look for a rod in the 6 or 6-10kg range for the cod. I have a shimano raider baitcast 6" 6-10kg (impoundmend barra model) which I think is nice.
shimano curado 200 or abu revo4 are nice. abu black max would do well if you want something a bit cheaper.
1-3 or 2-4 kg rod would be the go for the trout. I like rods around the 6" length.
and a 20-30 sz, or 2000-2500 sz spin reel would be my go.

I went into Aussie Angler for the first rod I've brought (everything else has been hand me downs) to get a light but versatile rod.
They put me on a 7" raider travel 'bream' with a legalis2500 reel.
Being clueless I had to trust the sales guy, seems he sold me roughly what I thought I wanted.

Funny I saw this.. yesterday I put a pre lined JW 2000 reel on a 7’ Shakespeare ugly custom, and selected a few different hard lures, plastics, softies on weighted hooks to test out and see how they perform wth distance and accuracy, it was actually a good setup, nailed the accuracy, casted fine using the roll whip side cast thing technique, into the wind and with the wind
