Cast right switch n wind right.. I can't throw a ball left handed how would I be expected to put a lure or bait in the zone.. I'd think that would be the most common form of casting I even do it with bait casters.. What's the cons of this?
If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!

I cast right and wind with my left the way I was taught by my grandad when using eddbeaters, except for my overheads/game reels, which although you can buy or get converted to lh wind, I wind with my right hand

Me too. Tried the other way, but just far too awkward and uncomfortable.

Yes I'm a dirty switcher. Had had the argument plenty of times with mates. It's never caused me grief even in fast water. Only time I see switching as a negative is with BC's

I had heard for things like soft plastics it was better to hold the rod in your right and wind with your left because it gave you better control of the rod tip that way. I have tried for a few casts but it felt so weird I quickly switched back.

I used to cast right/wind right, but recently changed to cast right/wind left and I like it much better. A few reasons:

-I'm right handed, so after I got over the initial awkwardness of winding left handed, I had much better rod control. Winding is the easy part of fishing - you should be holding the rod with your dominant hand (especially when working lures).
-It's more efficient. I know it doesn't seem like it takes much time to switch hands after a cast, but when you are flinging out hundreds of casts a day it makes a difference. You especially notice it when fishing side by side with someone who casts/winds with the same hand.
-As mentioned, it definitely makes a difference when casting floating lures in fast flowing, skinny water. If you flick a low cast only 15-20m up stream in fast water, by the time you switch hands and start winding, the lure will be halfway to your feet.
-Several times I've had a fish hit the lure literally as soon as it hit the water (especially when fishing surface). Once in Townsville I flicked a lure into a snag and as soon as it landed a big barra smashed it, and before I'd even swapped hands and started winding he'd dusted me. This is when I decided to start casting right/winding left.

These are only minimal differences, but I think if you are fishing a lot these minimal differences can be important. That said, I know many much better fishos than me who cast/wind with the same hand.

I keep switching between left hand and right hand wind.

Left hand wind is faster as I don't change hands but winding is not as good.

If the application line control is secondary and rod control is key ie squidding left hand wind works quite well.

I write left handed,Cast left,wind right.

in cricket i bat right,bowl & throw left.Golf i'm right.Tennis & squash i'm left.shooting left,footy kick left handball right,water ski left foot leading.

I can use a mouse, knife & fork, hand & power tools & weld either handed.

I think a lot to do with it is how you are taught/learn to do thing's.
