FYI - I bumped into a guy fishing for gar earlier this week off Brighton pier. He was flavouring his bait (no idea what it was :-( ) with curry powder! He swore by it, I kid you not. It looked like bog-standard medium curry powder. I checked the date, not April 1.

curry powder is a common ingredient in my garfish burley.
