Plenty river frustration

Post by Zimmer221096 » Wed Jul 19, 2017 3:47 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for plenty river, fished mainly the pools behind the homestead in Mernda with my brother and cousin, after about 10 trips managed a roach and a turtle, been behind yarrambat and nothing bridge inn road nothing apart from seeing two decent sized goldfish under the bridge, basically fished every hole in these spots with zero results and I've used baits such as bread, worms, slugs, corn and other bugs I've found around the areas while lure fishing with multiple spinners and soft plastics that I've caught trout and redfin on before just getting really frustrated as a many of the spots look so productive, really just want to catch a fish there as it's my primary fishing spot until I have my car in about 2 months, would it better downstream around the gorge or Greensborough or am I in the right spots?

Hi Mate
Dont be so hard on yourself, your not doing anything wrong and you are fishing in the right areas it's just your timing.
This cold weather will shut down the fish and you wont get a bite, it doesn't matter what bait or lure you use.
Wait till the weather warms up a little and the fish become more active and start feeding or just go drop a line in Yarrambat lake for some trout, i have done quite well there the past few weeks.

Good luck and don't give up.

Cheers for the reply, I figured the cold would come into play and the majority of the trips were at the start of the year with no luck but I'll never give up, the few trips in this cold were out of boredom mainly haha, is it much better over summer? I might have to go to yarrambat Saturday, I didn't think there'd be many left after the last stocking.

Yeah I've seen a few in the area on maps I want to check out, heard the original lake at mill park has some and I was planning on going there even if I only catch a carp haha they look some pretty decent catches aswell congrats! Do you mind me asking around what area the lake is? Not a specific spot just a starting point to adventure around haha

From fishing these small lakes I have found that most have fish in them. The original lake in Mill park lakes is well worth a try it's the lake on the corner of Findon Rd & The Great Eastern Way. This time of year the fish are harder to catch you will still get some if you put in the hours.

Yeah I'm only around the corner from there so I'll give it a go and we'll see what happens. Yeah I'm always up for a challenge just didn't think with the hours put in so far I'd still have really not much to show for it, still nice to get out of the house for a day regardless of the result :-D
