Mill Parks Lakes - South Morang

Post by Silverforce » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:53 pm

Been seeing frequent fishos around the walk way at this lake right next to houses and shops. Lots of ducks, birds (fishers), including some huge pelicans!

Anyone with exp at this area, any tips?

Carp are probably a safe bet in most suburban lakes, chuck some corn on a hook and see how you go

Ahh I grew up hitting this lake it used to be really good for Redfin! Nowadays it's few n far between. That said there are some very big carp in there a mate of mine has got a 20 pounder outta there!

There's a lot of weeds normally we just berley up with corn n creamed corn and cast out corn on a hook unweighted n wait.. It's not a garaunteed catch but if u are persistentyoullget onto some!

A mate lives out there, he's caught some large redfin on soft plastics, I've seen the pics so it's true, he says it's hard work through the weed but you need to look for some clear spots to work the lure..

There is a lake which is on the corner of Findon rd & The great Eastern Way which is actually an original lake from when it was just farmland which is very deep and does hold some good redfin. The other lakes are all man made and quite shallow.

Thanks guys for the tips, I didn't know about that one @Boonanza, have to give it a shot.

Looking at Google Map, the lake before the bridge on The Lakes Blvd seems to have heaps of weeds, seems more natural than the bigger area where all the ducks are at.

I'll give it a crack next time and report back.

Spent some time walking around the Lakes today, with a rod and 2 lures to get them wet. Wasn't expecting much...

Went to the lake next to the Great Eastern as suggested, gobsmacked!

The place is full of Carp! They would come right up to the bank, swimming slowly back and forth. I threw my lures at them but no bites, then tried to cast into the middle. Got stuck on a log, lost first lure.

Cast out far to another area, got stuck on another log, lost the 2nd lure. lol

While there, saw a few other fishos at the other lakes as well as near the shop & walk way next to the ducks. They caught a Reddy... right next to all the ducks, in what must be 40cm deep water.

Ridiculous stuff. O_o

Seeing all the Carp swim around, should be real easy to catch them. :)

I'm after Redfin, so I'll give some weedless SP lures a shot next time. Losing two spinning lures in two cast is a new record.
