Bacchus Marsh?

Post by 4liters » Wed Dec 16, 2015 3:51 pm

The family Christmas do is happening at Bacchus Marsh this weekend and I wondered if anyone knew of some decent places to fish nearby. Preferably lure fishing, which I guess means trout and redfin.
Cheers!

Pretty sure Jacksons creek is in gisborne and has had trout caught out of it where exactly I wouldn't know but I'd say it'd only really be fished by locals so probably worth a shot
If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!

Might be worth checking out.

Are there any chooks left in Bostock?

Bostock is very low but worth a shot early morning and on dusk. Pikes creek holds trout and redfin but gets busy with skiers during the day. Plenty of carp in the river under the bridge at the first westbound turnoff.

Wendouree in Ballarat has been producing some nice rainbows on lures and mudeyes over the past few weeks. About a 40 minute drive from Bacchus.

Sounds like I have a bit to think about. I'm pretty tempted to get down to Bostock on Friday night with a jar of power bait though.

Here is a good link, it's helped me out a few times . It also might be worth investing in some ecogear mx48's 306 or 339 if your going to fish the rivers/streams. Good luck :victory:

I was told Bostock is nearly dry, Pykes is very low but they were going to restock it between mid December and mid January.
I don't think the Lerderderg would be running but it has some nice little holes if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Watch out for the snakes

Try Lerdederg river behind Golf course at start of Lerdederg Gorge - access used to be via track outside Golf course

I grew up in Bacchus Marsh and to be honest its not great fishing in the rivers around town, a few small reddies and trout if your lucky.
Pykes has some good reddies and carp but its not that great unless you have a boat.
The two places i would be looking at this time of year are lake wendouree in ballarat ( PM me if you go ill let you know where to fish), the other place thats fishing well at the moment is Newlyn Reservoir just near ballarat, some monster reddies have been caught the last few weeks on lures.
