I think when all the gulps are used up I'll get some non sented/juicey ones, Im sick of juice leaking out of proper bulp containers and going fury and stinky lol

Gulps are a great way to boost your confidence in lure fishing, one you feel confident, there are much much better plastics out there.

Let us know how you go anyway ;)

Ahh righty'o
I lost faith in the plastics a while ago.
Got a fair few different ones and I never got a thing, but It was mainly land based.
I wasn't until the other week when we had a good session on the flatties that I thought cool these actually work.

Id rather flick a plastic or lure any day of the week over bait.
Its more enjoyable and entertaining doing somthing apart from sitting on me bum and waiting.

What are the better plastics that are out there?

cheers cam
Hey Cam,

Ditto, they are fun to be fishing with. Heaps of plastics out there mate and to name a few.

Durable with great action in no particular order.

Doa jerkbait
Zman Grubz, Paddle tailz, Curl Tailz
Fish Arrow Flash Jerkbait ( the most realistic bait fish profile)
Ghost Grubs from Tackled.com.au for just $5 delivered. Have caught many species from pinkies, Jew, Salmon, Trevally and big flatheads.
Tsuribaka Tackle Worms ( cant find better worm profiles than this)
Madeye Flick stick and Flutter Shrimp & Paddle prawn

Heaps more that I have/still use. Haven't mentioned squidgees as they tear way too easily, just my opinion.

Cheers
D

Great list there. All awesome plastics.
Gotta love those Tsuribaka worms.

May I also add the Atomic range of plastics, especially the Prong. Great little plastics for both salt and freshwater, fish just go mad for the scent.

I picked up a packet of Zman grubs today at BCF.
I was up that way looking at fridges and just had to go for a look lol
Think I'll see what the local tackle shop has when im out and about, bcf has been flogged out by touros again and there was hardly anything
on the shelves.
Im pretty happy with the grubs from just taking one out of the packet.
No slimy crap to spill and go mouldy and they seem a heap stronger than the gulps.
I did the stretch test on the tail and she went a fair way.
They looked pretty good on a you tube vid that I watched.
Keen to stock up on a few and get out there.
cheers cam

Gulp is made of potatoes mixed with fishfood or something like that lol and its biodegradable. Zman is soft plastic in its true sense. Just a heads up, you don't want to mix it with other plastics or put it in a plastic container. They will melt.

It might be difficult to rig it on a regular jighead initially, due to its elasticity but you will get used to it. You could use a tinny dab of super glue or buy headlockz jigheads with are specifically designed for zman but to be honest, I never have any problems with regular jigheads unless I am skip casting under the structure.

Hope you get on to a few mate.

Thanks for the heads up.
Its funny you mentioned not mixing them up, I literally just watch a video on how to look after them and not mix them with other plastics or even storage boxes.
So I quickly ran out and put them back into the packet and put them in a "leak proof" gulp container.
I had them sitting in the container until I heard about the storage.

I did see a bloke use some super glue just on the tip.
And I couldnt imagine them falling off in a hurry, or do they?

Need to check out the tackle shop for some more jig heads as well.
They had them at BCF but in packets, I used to get them individually at Billfisher tackle when I worked in seaford
I think they must have had a mould and made up their own, which was great because I could swing past and grab a couple as I needed them.
I gotta get some heavier heads but not with huge hooks and im not too familiar with hook sizes I have to look at hem in person to
see if they are the ones im after lol
Still pretty new to this fishing caper.

Gone are the days of just throwing anything on and drifting with the old man as a kid and getting luck dips and flatties every trip.
Its good being able to target something in particular.

Cheers cam

I find spotlighting/spearing the best way to get big flatties.

You see a quite a few, but rarely manage to get half of those you sight, so they have a good escape-rate.

It's amazing how close to the edge they lie at night.

The following were all speared in less than 30cm of water, between 1m and 2m from the waters edge.

They went (big to small) 72cm, 63cm, 50cm and 42cm - three yank and one rock flattie.

They are always a good buy catch when we go floundering. Best to come up from behind if you can and be fairley quick at spearing or they will take off , but walk up slowley.
