All Victorian anglers should make themselves aware of the new size limits for Dusky Flathead.

interesting. i was not aware of that. well anyway I let it go, always let the big ones go.

i am surprised that the new size limits aren't advertised at the ramps, plenty of people will be keeping the big ones, non the wiser that its now illegal

Fished Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for approx 2 hour sessions after work. Got 6 between me and missus on sps. Kept 4 released 2 which were High 50s. Again no sign of snapper :shocker:

edit: Reported one old bloke keeping a 15ish cm pinkies. I am not sure why would someone keep that size.

That is a nice one mate. The ones we caught were I reckon rock flattties but they were almost black with full of eggs. I kept one around 48cm but felt bad as it was loadedwith eggs too. Sadly I did not take any photos of the bigger ones.

yeah, my research leads me to believe it is a Rock Flathead...it is considered the best of the flatheads for eating.

Scientific Name: Platycephalus laevigatus

Max Size: 60 cm (so high 50's is about as big as they get)

rock flatties have the best tasting fillet..soft and juicy unlike the tiger and sand flatties that are like rubber soles when cold. :roflmao:

So the one that you caught earlier (snakehead cross) was it a rock flathead?
