Landbased flathead in southern ppb
Landbased flathead in southern ppb
Just wondering what are the best tactics to go for flathead in this area
Wading shallows with soft plastics?
Bait off piers?
I live in rosebud and would love to catch a few!

Bait off piers when it's freezing ******* cold, wading with soft plastics when the weather is nice and/or the pier is overcrowded imo.

Brown Trout: 37cm
Flathead: 51cm; Squid: 36cm; Australian Salmon: 51cm; Snapper 46cm; Silver Trevally 23cm; KGW: 45cm

Cast out, lift, wind, let sink, lift wind let sink.
Couple of different lift techniques, but just experiment as one day might not be the same as another.
Paddle tails are good if your new to plastics.
Cheers Jeff

Get on YouTube, there's heaps of instructional clips for sp's and flatty fishing. There's a good one from youfish, it's boat based but they get onto some big flatties out near port albert from memory.bigdan91 wrote:ive never used them before how do you work soft plastics?matt1991 wrote:soft plastics work off the pier aswell. Basically you're just working it across the bottom. Jighead weight doesn't matter too much for flatties, as long as you can get it along the bottom. 1/8 to 1/4 will do you for most landbased situations.

Probably the 1/4 jig head for a bit more distance.
If your after a lure you could try the Maria Duplex long cast 31gm, bit expensive.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Guessing run out tide on dusk/dawn is prime time for them?
I've got a packet of squidy minow 50mm and squidgy wrigglers along with 1/8 jig head hook size 2 from when I tried patterson river
Will these be too small for the piers?
