Don't see why they wouldn't work Ian considering the way flatties will have a go at almost anything running past them and I think if it looks like a nice small juicy crab even better. I personally haven't tried a plastic crab with them but if I had one I'd give it a go. So far I've had enough success on the Zman's and Squdgees that I haven't even thought about it till I read your comment.

curl tail grub in white has been never fail lure.
some others I find successful - keitech swing impact 3" green pumpkin, ecogear grass minnow #101 or the squidgy fish mint jelly.

I tried the cranka crabs & they work very well, they are better with a single hooks on flatties. I haven't tried a plastic crab yet.

I always have success in the bay using 3inch gulp minnows in the nuclear chicken colour, Flatty's are usually all over them.
few short sharp flicks and a 5-10 second pause

What weight jig heads do people use for different depths of water?

for the bay i usually use 1/8 for all depths, might not be the best tactic but works for me.

I use the same 1/8 jig heads and 3inch minnows in bloodworm, pumpkinseed and nuclear chicken they all do the damage..

For the boat it's more about speed of drift then depth of water.
For land and I've been looking for heavier jig heads without big hooks on them.

first flatty on a soft plastic 51cm and 2 tailor not bad for 1 hrs work

from loch sport my wife also caught a 40cm flatty on the surf we got plenty of bait sided mullet and seen only 2 salmon taken
