I do.. pretty much all the time. Some lures run better in certain conditions so ill change them around till all the lures are running properly. Also if i see a certain color or size is getting hit ill change over to that color or size on most of the spread.

Re: Portland Tuna - Now
Sorry to jump back to earlier post, but where exactly is the "rock"?
I'm hoping to get down to Portland, and also up to Bermi with our new 7.6m boat and catch some tuna. Barrels would be nice, but I'd also be content with some small ones too, since it will be my first.
Hoping to get a lot more into game fishing in the next years, so already buying the gear for it (rollered game rods and tiagras)

Wasnt sure if talking about fish or missed reading the firun or something elseducky wrote:I literally began and ended my post with “I/we missed”smile0784 wrote:ducky wrote:I missed today. Yesterday roughly 11am the call was made to go. Got home at 5:30pm. Carlg has very generously dropped a couple rods I had lent him at my joint. Another mate at a tackle store in g town had bought and rigged a few well known barrel skirts for me. We ended up picking up the skirts and shooting straight for Portland. Got there at 1:30am. Slept in the boat. Up at 5:30 or so to eat breakkie and launch. Went to the lighthouse 40m and trolled almost all the way to discovery bay. Sounded heaps of bait. Spotted a couple of whales. Birds were working but nothing was working the bait from below so it was holding in 20m generally. Odd bird dives when the bait was sitting at 10m.
Just got home now to have a shower and wash a veritable sh*t ton of salt spray off my face and eyes haha.
Shame we missed but learnt a bit along the way.
But did you get any?

Re: Portland Tuna - Now
The rock, it Lawrence Rock, and my advice is to go around it and not to try and cut between it and the main land. I saw some boats take the short cut so I decided to follow, only to be confront with a wave between 3-4 metres in height.Davidsch1 wrote:Sorry to jump back to earlier post, but where exactly is the "rock"?

Re: Portland Tuna - Now
Just finished up 3 days of fishing at Portland, was hard going with most of the fish caught in the first 2 hours of sunlight the last few days.
We dropped a barrel after an hour and fifteen yesterday morning pulling the hooks 10m from the boat, and didn't get another look in after that. Ahh well
