Post by Mattblack » Wed May 03, 2017 8:14 am

Hi All,
Just wondering what kind of boats are people taking to Portland/Port Fairy/etc this year? (length, hp and fuel tank size)

Old 560 now 610C crusher with 140 zuk. Only had to run to lighthouse and worked that area for the day. Seas 3.5-4m wind 20 knots 3 POB fuel usage after each day was 65-70l. Always leave with full tank a 23l jerry can in boat below the battery box. When I have done trips to the shoe with full day fishing yet to empty the 140l tank but have returned one day with only about 10l in tank but if doing shelf I take two jerry cans so spare 45litres. One of the main reasons I carry jerrys is if (when) I get my first barrel it may take many hours etc or most likely finding someone who ahs run out....I don't want to (but will if needed) tow someone in in big weather I would rather give them a jerry of fuel. I even carry the jiggler siphon hose for this reason.

Loving your reports Matt...they are informative and beautifully detailed. Never heard of a jiggler siphon , but I'll be buying one today...thanks for that!

MattB I call it the jiggler syphon (like the Julia Gillard nick name for Qantas coloured Xrap)...its the tube with the marble that jiggles....saves a month full of petrol.

I head there in the Same boat as stesslmatt. Same motor. Same fuel consumption. same fuel carry hahaha.

One day I'll get the balls to take my formula 15 down there for a crack at the estuary and a shot offshore if the day is right. But no plans yet.
