Re: Portland this weekend
You know you are a good fisherman when you have a group of people waiting to hear how you went, haha. Im keen to hear the results as well!
Re: Portland this weekend
No luck from us this trip, ill still give a bit of a report though.
We ended up launching about 7.30 Saturday morning, 4 knot northerly wind but a 2.4m swell which was great fun in a 18 ft mustang!
The local reports said head out south from Lawrence rocks and trawl the 50 - 70 m line towards bridge water. We covered about 30 kms without a hit so we came in to grab some lunch, at the ramp Matt Hunt had about 9 tuna and other boats had tuna as well they were all around the 5 - 10kg mark. We saw the guys that had the barrel that was caught, it went 89 kg, there were 2 other barrels caught for the day. apparently we trawled the wrong way and should have trawled left towards port fairy as that's where most of them were caught. The wind got up on the Sunday so we decided to play it safe and not head out, those who tuna and run away live to tuna another day.
so short version if anyone else decides to head down in the next week or so the tuna are still about but are hard to find, head SE to the 50 m line from Lawrence rocks and trawl East.
