mate, if it means loosing braid then so be it. asking if you can flatten barbs or yank circles out is just silly.

actually maybe use paperclips as hooks. you wont loose a thing then...................

Hey young fella, if u don't think there is the chance of being a big shark, your kidding yourself.

Big sharks can be in a meter of water or less.

All the methods u have mentioned are silly.
How can just yanking the line hard remove the hook and not tear the face out of the poor thing.
Look at the hook and think about what I wrote there.

Occasionally loosing some line or being spooled is part of fishing, if u can't accept that I say give up fishing as your hobby and take up knitting or hopscotch.

Is it just me, but when you hook onto a big shark, pulling the hook or something is exactly the last thing u want to happen. I will take the chance of being spooled every day to hook into something like that

Mate I have snagged lots of seals in WP chassing snapper/gummies. I'm running 50lb braid and 60lb leader, and have lost some line but nothing to worry about. I don't see why your worrying about seals and dolphins, the sharks in SA are more likely to spool you rather than seals, they seem to play with the fish while most sharks run.I can't guarantee it will not ruin your reel but if you use it on the right drag etc, you should be fine.
What kind of combo you using as well?
Here fishy fishy.......
