To Bleed or Not To Bleed?

Post by fishhead » Fri Jun 17, 2011 12:34 pm

I don't normally bleed my fish but often saw other people bleed theirs (esp. salmons & tailors).
What is the reason for this?
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work.

Bleeding salmon you intend to keep is vital because it improves the taste. :) The quickest and most effective way of doing this is by cutting through the tissue beneath the gills then, if possible, keeping the fish upside down in a vertical position to let the blood drain out. This is easy to do when surf fishing because you can stick the fish into the sand headfirst and buried to just above the pectoral fins.
