INDUSTRIAL SCALE ELECTRO - FISHING

I have nothing against sustainable commercial fishing as everyone has to make a buck or two and we like to eat fish but this is something else if widely used and further developed:

It's hard to determine whether it's an improvement or not from the footage.

Does it reduce by catch?
Does it protect the sea floor?
Will it harm seals, dolphins and whales etc.

So the bigger the specimen of whatever it is the more likely that thier spines will explode? How is that at all eco friendy?? Sounds bloody terrifying to me, what if a diver crossed path by accident or whale or mamal of any sort would they just pop? Geezus

I have no issue with new commercial fishing techniques providing the catch is not increased beyond sustainable limits and that there is no adverse environmental impacts. If by using new technology 10 boats catch the same as 100 at present, and the other 90 are removed from the fishery, apart from the lost employment and other spin-offs then it does not make much difference to the catch and may possibly be environmentally positive. History has repeatedly shown us though that in many fisheries the introduction of bigger boats and new technologies has simply increased the catch beyond what is sustainable. As we all know the idea of commercial fishing for "scientific research" has often been just an excuse - for example the Japanese awarding themselves extra Southern Bluefin Tuna quota for "scientific research" purposes and then fishing in the same areas at the same times with the same boats that they have always used.
