Mallacoota Fishing Report (Easter Weekend)
Some may have read my post about if mallacoota had been fishing slow lately... here`s how I went.I fished mallacoota with a few others on Easter Weekend (Fri-Sun) and was quite surprised at the number of fish caught considering what I had heard about mallacoota lately. We were targeting bream for some durations and flathead.
Day 1 (Friday, only fished for a few hours) - 4 flathead, small snapper and tailor
Day 2 (Saturday) - 8 decent size flathead, one over 50cm
Day 3 (Sunday) - 23 mostly bream from about 20cm-38cm, some small tailor and snapper again and a few good flatties one 50cm+ as well as before
We were constantly moving spots, which is what in my humble advice I would recommend if you`re fishing mallacoota in the near future. All of our fishing was on lures, stand outs were Z-man Motor oil grub and Daiwa Spike in Black Sniper... would recommend changing trebles as they`re weak and prone to snapping.
Best of luck fishing!
Cheers,
Blake
P.S
Attached our some of the better catches on the trip. Thanks again
Also attatched is a photo of what we thought was an Irukandji jellyfish in the water at the lakes. (In centre of photo) For those unaware of what an Irukandji is, it`s the cousin of the box-jellyfish but smaller and known to have a sting causing excruciating pain. Just a heads up myself and no one else there with me knew of these in Mallacoota waters, they`re more often found further North of Australia I`m told. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has seen them in or near Mallacoota, apologies for glare and off photo quality in some of the pics. Thank you again.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
